Lily's Science Fair

So way back in September, Lily had a Science Fair at her school and her daddy and I both thought that was pretty cool. She decided that she would like to build a volcano for her experiment (and of course, her daddy had nothing at all to do with that decision...). I thought it might be a bit too advanced for a 2 yr old, but surprisingly, a lot of people recommend starting science lessons with something like a volcano, as it shows a pretty basic chemical reaction that most kids can pick up on pretty easily.

So, I bought lots of playdoh, lots of baking soda and vinegar and some posterboard for the masterpiece and we got started. Lily built the volcano around an empty pickle jar and then we set it aside to dry and wait for the big day at school. Daddy loaded an empty water bottle with baking soda and then headed outside on the porch with Lily to add the vinegar. Of course, after the addition  the vinegar, the water bottle "erupted" (or went "boom" as Lily said) with lots of lovely foam and bubbles. Lily's face when she saw it was awesome.

The next day, the volcano headed to school with Lily and she got to tell her teacher, her preschool director and all of her classmates all about it and she did a great job!
