The day after we were released from the hospital, Lily had her first visit to her pediatrician's office. Her pediatrician wanted to make sure that her bilirubin level was not increasing after being off of the UV lights. So, we had our first car trip and outing the day after she came home! I have to give us credit - we were both up, had Lily fed and dressed, had taken showers, had the dogs taken care of and were out of the house by 9:50, in time for our doctor's appointment at 10:10. I'd say it was a successful first outing! We arrived at the doctor's office and were taken back to an exam room. Lily was weighed and we found out she had already gained 3 ounces since Friday evening! She didn't appreciate being naked for her weight check and made sure everyone in the practice heard all about it. The doctor we saw was really pleased with her progress and thought she looked so good, there was no reason to poke her and re-check her bilirubin (yay!). She asked us to come back on Tuesday for a weight re-check and quick exam to make sure her weight was still stabilizing.
We went back to the doctor on Tuesday and got to see the pediatrician who had taken care of Lily for the most part in the hospital. Both Richard and I really like this doctor. He's been in practice for about 30 years (we're seriously hoping he has no plans to retire soon!) and has a great bedside manner. He's fantastic with Lily and always offers us some great information when we see him. Lily had her weight check done and had gained another ounce! That put her at 5 lbs, 3 oz - only an ounce away from her birthweight. Her doctor was really pleased with how she looked and said that she has great muscle tone and reflexes already - which will probably mean that she will grow quickly (especially if her eating habits are anything to go by...). Her next visit is in 2 weeks, so we'll keep you posted on how she's grown! Here are a few pictures from her first visit:
