The Girls

In the past year, we've lost most of our small animals; I guess we just hit that time in their lives, but it's been difficult with each loss, as we've enjoyed having each of them so much.

We lost Zoe first, early last year, after a long battle with an insulinoma - a pretty common tumor in ferrets. She fought a hard battle for a long time and never complained nor refused her medicine. She was such a funny, spunky, playful girl and kept us entertained all the time. She was one of the sweetest ferrets I've ever met and didn't back down from the dogs, ever.

Titian was next and I'm pretty sure she passed away of pure old age, soon after Lily was born. We're pretty sure she was 7-8 years old, a pretty long life for a guinea pig (especially as chunky as she was!). One afternoon we went in to find her laying on her side, breathing pretty shallowly and laboriously. Not long after she passed away. She was also quite an entertaining little girl and quite the chatty pig. She didn't mind letting you know when she thought she needed attention or a treat (or 5).
This week, we lost another longtime member of our family - our ball python, Eloise. She came to us from the SPCA, as all of our small animals have, and she lived with us for about 6 years. We're not sure how old she was or what her history was before she came to us, but she was a really nice silent companion. She lived in Richard's office and kept him company on his long nights of working or playing video games.

They all came to us around the same time, about 6 years ago, so we had the pleasure of their company for a long time. But, it's definitely strange to have so few animals in our house now and we'll miss them all. Rest in peace girls, thank you for sharing your lives with us.
