Today we headed to the doctor for Lily's 6 month checkup. She did great, as usual - she loves Dr. Franklin! She had to get 4 shots today and one oral vaccine. The oral one went fine; she really doesn't mind the taste of it at all. All 4 of the others went well too, although she cried a little more today than last time, which of course hurt mommy. But this time, she got to have a little bit of juice after her shots, so she was done being upset pretty quickly. She weighed in at 14 lbs, 6 oz, which keeps her in the 10th percentile for her weight. She was 25.25 inches long, putting her in the 25th percentile for height and her head measured at 41 cm, putting her in the 10th percentile for head circumference. She's still our little munchkin, but growing well! Here are a few pictures from today's visit:

In the last month, Lily has definitely had some new experiences. She had her first taste of cereal and has gone on to try summer squash, butternut squash and sweet potatoes in addition to cereal. Here was her reaction to summer squash:
Butternut squash and sweet potatoes are definitely the favorites so far. After sweet potatoes we're going to move on to carrots and then try some fruits, starting with bananas. Up to this point, I've made her baby food and it's gone really smoothly so far. My friend Jessi, who has a wonderful and extremely informative blog recommended the www.wholesomebabyfood.com website to me and it has been a big help. I found a steamer at a consignment store last weekend for $5 (score!) and it has really helped. Basically, I wash and peel all the veggies, slice them up and steam them. Once the timer dings and the steamer is done, I throw them in the blender with the right amount of breastmilk and puree away - the result: yummy cheap baby food! After it's all pureed, I freeze it in ice cube trays which portions them out perfectly. Once they're all frozen, I pop out the cubes and put them in ziplocs to store in the freezer. When dinnertime comes around, I grab a cube, defrost it and voila! dinner for Lily :) Other than trying new solid foods, Lily is still on breastmilk, nursing or having a bottle 5-6 times a day. She usually drinks about 6 ounces at a time - still a great eater!
Lily is such a busy baby. She rolls all over the place and doesn't like to stay in one position for too long, unless she's sleeping. Gone are the times when we could leave her on the floor and come back to find her in the same spot - now you're likely to find her all over the place. We're working on sitting up and she's able to sit up by herself for about 30 seconds or so before she gets distracted and falls over. She loves to topple over, which makes motivating her to sit up a little difficult. She really likes to stand up and loves to bounce when she is standing. We actually got her a new toy that is an entertainer and bouncer in one and this keeps her occupied for quite awhile. She really likes to scoot around, but her preferred way of doing this is to scoot on her back, using her head - which has resulted in a little bald spot that can't grow any hair - I'm looking forward to her scooting on her tummy and letting that spot grow in! Other than that spot, her hair is growing in really well and her eyes are changing color too - right now, it looks like her hair is going to be fairly light and that maybe she'll have green eyes after all.
