State Fair 2013!

Because of another commitment, we went to the fair on the first weekend this year instead of the last - and it was great! We were really afraid that it would be slammed (we were caught in some really bad crowds last year), but it wasn't. This probably was also due to the weather (cloudy, but no rain!) - whatever it was, we were glad of it.

We started off our state fair food bonanza with hot dogs for me and Lily (plain for her, chili and slaw for me) and a polish sausage for Richard. After we'd scarfed those down, we did our usual rounds of the animal and vegetable exhibits and then headed off in search of more food! We really wanted to try the red velvet deep fried oreos this year, so that was first on our list. They were fantastic! They were served with cream cheese icing drizzled over the top and that really made them fabulous. Lily loved them - she ate half of our order! Along with the oreos, we got some fried pickle chips, which were also yummy, but nothing really special.

We then headed over to the Governor Scott Kerr building. We knew that Bluebird Cupcakes, the company that made Lily's birthday cupcakes last year, was to have their booth in that building and Lily really wanted one of their cupcakes. Once we'd found them, we quickly headed out (it was REALLY crowded) to let Lily ride some rides. She absolutely loves to ride rides and used up every single one of her tickets on the 2 kiddie rollercoasters, the carousel, a hot air balloon ride, the spinning dragons and this other ride that I don't know the name of - it goes around and around on a hill track and she just loves it.

After we finished the very last ride, we grabbed some nachos and some ice cream and then called it a day! But! Before we could head home, we had to take our annual pictures with the wolves:

Lily and I actually met up with Aunt Katie later on that week on canned food day to spend some time with her while she was at the fair. We ate our hot dogs again and some more oreos (that kid just loves them) and then Lily talked me into buying tickets so that she could do the ride (that I don't know the name of) again with Aunt Katie. She had a blast, again! Then she decided she'd like to play a game and even though I know what a waste of money they are, it was the only one she'd aske to do either day we were at the fair, so I forked over the $2 for her to fish. She thought it was pretty cool that she won a prize - we actually thought we'd lost her prize on the way out of the fair, but we later found it stuffed in her coat in the car :).
