State Fair 2012

Today we headed to the State Fair to enjoy the food and festivities (mainly the food...) and to let Lily check out the animals. We headed over there around 11, trying to get a jump on the crowds and that seemed to be a great time to go - we really didn't run into massive crowds like we have in years past. We always park at Carter-Finley (go Pack!) and get annual pictures with the wolves, so after we did that we headed into the fair.

We grabbed our usual hot dogs (and Italian sausage for Richard) from the Nathan's booth just inside the gate and headed over to a grassy spot to do some people watching and eat our lunch. Richard grabbed us some deep fried Oreo's as dessert and they were really good - a little unexpected in their texture, but overall, really tasty.

After our hot dog break, we went to check out the livestock and all of the prize winning veggies, including the biggest pumpkin. We got a picture of Lily in front of it, which was totally appropriate since she was wearing her pumpkin shirt. After checking out the cows, steers, goats, lambs and pigs, we headed outside to the handwashing station and then to see the school bus that was on display. For those of you who may not know, Lily is slightly obsessed with school buses. She likes to watch them in the morning from her bedroom window (there's a stop right at our intersection) and will point out the fact that there's a school bus driving by, anytime she sees one. So, this was an extra special treat for her.

After the school bus, we headed over to the crafts, baked goods and commercial displays (and of course, grabbed some ribbon fries on our way...) We checked out all of the goodies and then headed to (what turned out to be..) Lily's favorite part of the day - Kiddieland! We really weren't sure how she would react to rides, but as it turns out, she is a ride fanatic. So, Lily and I rode the Silver Streak together, she and Richard rode the Circus Train ride together and then she rode, by herself, the Granny Bug ride and the Wiggle Wurm and she loved every second of it!! Next year, we are definitely going to have to stock up on ride tickets when we go!
