HCP Science Fair 2013

Lily's Science Fair was last Tuesday and this year, she did so much of her project on her own! It absolutely amazes me all the time how she is growing up.

She decided to do a project on egg drops. So, we did a test to see what happened when an egg drops (it breaks!) and then we went around the house and brainstormed some ideas to protect it when it was dropped. She came up with 10 ideas:

- Put the egg in a cup.
- Put the egg in plastic grocery bags.
- Wrap it in bubble wrap.
- Wrap it in paper towels.
- Put it in a couch pillow.
- Wrap it in a blanket.
- Put it in her sun hat.
- Put it in a cookie box.
- Put it in a pull-up.
- Put it in a Ziploc bag.

So, we tried out all her different protection ideas for the egg and 4 of them worked! It didn't break when it was put in the cookie box, wrapped in bubble wrap, put on the couch pillow or wrapped in the plastic grocery bags.

This year we were also asked to incorporate a Godly lesson into the science experiment, as well as the science lesson. So, we read Isaiah 41:10 and talked about how God's love is our protection when we fall, just like the bubble wrap, cookie box, pillow and plastic bags are for the egg.

She had such a fun time doing this - although, she was always disappointed when the egg DIDN'T break, instead of when it did! The more mess the better it seems :)

Isaiah 41:10: "Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand".
