This Father's Day, I wanted to make it special. It's not really a more special Father's day than any of the others, but I wanted to make it a great memory for Richard. So, of course I went to Pinterest for ideas (see Kenny? Pinterest can have great benefits for you!). I came across this fantastic idea - it was perfect for Richard. For those of you who might not know, he is a huge fan of burgers - all kinds of burgers. I think, besides pizza, burgers are probably his favorite food, so I just had to make these for him. Here was his special Father's Day surprise:
I had a little help from my kitchen assistant:
These were actually not too difficult to make. I found the instructions here - she has some amazing ideas and lots of fun stuff. Basically, you bake some yellow cupcakes and brownies, cut the brownies out into circles, cut the cupcakes in half, top the bottom cupcake with a brownie burger, decorate with tinted icing, top with your cupcake bun and sprinkle on some sesame seeds - so cute!
To make your fries, roll out some sugar cookies, slice them into fry shapes (remove every other one, so they don't bake into blobs) and then bake them.
These were so much fun to make and the look on Richard's face was absolutely awesome! Love it.
For his Father's Day present, Lily and I also wanted to make sure daddy got something really special that he would remember. Richard had mentioned to me a long time ago that he had considered joining the Air Force at one point in his life - so when I saw a Living Social deal in my inbox for an introductory flight lesson, I knew I couldn't pass it up for him. Of course, we couldn't just give it to him - we had to find a fun idea to go along with it. So, I found this model airplane that he and Lily can work together to build :
He opened this first (and I think he was a little confused...) and then opened his flight certificate. It was awesome to see his face and to know that we got him something so memorable. We can't wait to see him fly!
We celebrated Father's Day with a Mexican fiesta at our house with
the Fine family. Even though it was crazy storming outside, Richard grilled us some delicious chicken and steak for
fajitas and we had some homemade guacamole (my dad's recipe) to pair
with them.
After Father's Day with the Fine's, we got to
spend some time with Nana and Paca who stopped through on their way back
to Asheboro from Virginia Beach. We spent some time just hanging out
and chatting - always the best time.
Happy Father's day to you, babe, thank you so much for being such a wonderful dad to Lily. We're so thankful and so blessed to have you in our lives.
Happy Father's day to you, daddy. I wouldn't be who or where I am today without you. Thank you for all you've taught me - yesterday and ten years ago. I love you!
